In-Home Support

In-Home support is a new service initiative which offers individualised support for a child with disability who lives at home. The scheme aims at providing families with the support of a skilled person in addressing their concerns related to nurturing and support of children with complex caring needs. Currently we provide in-home support services to children requiring a high level of caring support (e.g. multiple disabilities) to enable them to continue to live at home.

As part of this service, families are offered the assistance of an In-Home Support Worker to help parents look after the caring requirements of children with an intellectual disability. The services of an In-Home Support Worker may include assistance in feeding, nursing care, and teaching activities of daily living skills. As a rule, the level of care required by each child will govern the nature of services that will be offered under this scheme.

This support is time limited and is designed to meet an individual goal (e.g. developing independence or achieving daily living skills) as specified in the individulised care plan for each child. The In-Home Support Worker will visit the child in his/her home on specified days and for a specified period of time. The frequency of visits by the Home Support Worker and the nature of his/her services are governed exclusively by the care plan and the level of functioning of the child.

In order to avail of the In-Home Support Services, carers should apply to the Co-ordinator of Children’s Services. Upon receipt of the application, the Referral Committee will assess the suitability of the services for each child.
