VOICES
VOICES is the Advocacy Group in Carmona Services. Advocacy is about speaking up for yourself, speaking up for others and problem solving. There are 10 people in VOICES, one from each area in the Adult services. The people in VOICES are called VOICES Reps.
VOICES get together each month for a meeting. At the meeting they talk about things that matter in their areas, in Carmona Services and in the community. People talk about changes they would like to make and what has been happening since the last meeting. The Reps make action plans and keep track of all the work they do on an issue. Mostly the issues are about having physical access to places, keeping safe, attending events and training and working with other committees in Carmona Services.
VOICES meet with the Management team to discuss things that are important to VOICES. It’s important that people have a chance to speak up and speak out. It’s important that people take part in decision making and have choices about how they want to live their lives. VOICES go to infoshare so they can tell people about the work they have been doing.
You can find out what happened at the VOICES meeting by asking your area’s VOICES Rep to show you the minutes of meeting. The minutes are a record of what happened at the meeting. There are 3 kinds of minutes; written, with pictures and on DVD. If you want to raise something to go to the meeting you can ask your VOICES Rep to bring it up for you. It will be put on the VOICES agenda.
