Work with Us
St John of God Our First Volunteer
Originally from Portugal, St John of God had a varied career as shepherd, soldier and labourer. While working as a bookseller in Granada, Spain, he had a conversion experience so intense that he was placed in a psychiatric hospital. The insight he gained there into the needs of the poor and the sick inspired him to devote the rest of his life to caring for the underprivileged and marginalised in society. Today, his work continues in over 250 hospitals and centres in 48 countries around the world, providing a wide range of social, education, welfare and health services.
Volunteering
There is no such thing as an average volunteer. From every walk of life and age range, we have up to 100 people, including our own staff, who make a regular commitment and give almost 1,000 hours of their times weekly.
